Formation and Migration of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This medical illustration series depicts the formation, migration and lodging of a deep venous (vein) thrombosis (DVT) in the lung and heart. Starting in the leg, a blood clot, called a thrombus, forms in a vein. As it grows in size, a portion called an embolus (pl: emboli) breaks off and flows through the venous system to the heart and lungs. There, multiple embolisms form in the pulmonary valve of the heart and in the lung tissue.
